Setting up your company
free distribution advice and tips, and jobs
As with everything you do, it is important that at the beginning it is done properly. This is because setting up a good foundation always makes it easier in the long run. Also the mind very powerful and if you think small that is always what you are intending to achieve.
Having a business name to give to a client will make you look less like a cowboy and more like a properly run outfit. Many leaflet distributors currently doing business in their own name are able to get work yes, but it will be more difficult to get very big jobs, as most of the clients they would get is via personal relationships or referrals.
Another reason why not having a business name is not the best way to do business comes down simply to a matter of trust. Leaflet distribution is one of those businesses that require payment upfront, if not half of it. Now let me ask you a question. If you have 50,000 leaflets to distribute, would you give a guy called John Smith all of them? Remember you will also have to pay him half the money upfront. Not sure? Lets work this out so you can see for yourself in terms of numbers.
| Amount of Leaflets | 50,000 |
| Printing Cost for A5 leaflet | £476 from printing.com |
| Distribution Cost | £43/1000 = £2150 |
| John needs all your leaflets plus half up front before starting | |
| Upfront cost | £1075 plus leaflets cost £476 |
Now would you right a cheque to a John Smith who you met on gumtree for £1075 plus give him all your leaflets or would you feel more trust writing this out to "AQ Distributions ltd".
Most people would simply rather do business with another company rather than an individual. Even though you don't have to, having a company name will make you look more professional.
You will also find that most companies would pay with a cheque. There is no way you will get a company to send you £700 cash in the post. Again it inspires business confidence if a cheque is written out to "ABC Leaflet distribution ltd" instead of John Smith.
Ok the next step is actually setting up your company and you can do this several ways.
